Forsaken paladin

New race and class combination

Undead holy warriors. Mechanically it hands the Horde a second paladin race; thematically it is the strangest thing in the announcement.

At a glance

How to read these labels. Confirmed — Stated by Blizzard at BlizzCon or in official material. Strong signal — Datamined, or consistent across every previous Classic launch. Usually right. Speculative — Our read. Reasoned, but not fact, and we will say so when it turns out wrong. Unknown — Nobody has said. We are not going to pretend otherwise.

This is a balance change wearing a costume

Classic’s faction asymmetry is famous: Alliance gets paladins, Horde gets shaman, and every raid comp discussion for twenty years has started there. Forever hands paladin to the Horde and shaman to the Alliance in the same breath — Forsaken paladin and dwarf shaman are two halves of one decision.

For raiding, blessings and a battle-res-adjacent toolkit arriving on the Horde is significant. It softens the Alliance’s traditional PvE advantage, and it changes which faction you should pick if you care about raid slots.

The lore problem

Forsaken are undead. Paladins channel the Light, which in Warcraft lore actively burns the undead. There is no clean precedent in this era for reconciling the two. Blizzard has not explained it, and how they do will tell you a lot about how far Forever is willing to move from vanilla canon.

What to watch

Whether the combination comes with modified abilities or a reskinned Light. If Forsaken paladins get their own visual and thematic treatment rather than a straight port, it suggests the same care is going into the other combinations.
