Orc mage

New race and class combination

Orc gets a second caster. Mage was troll and undead only on the Horde for the entire history of Classic — Forever adds orc to that list.

At a glance

How to read these. VERIFIED — Stated by Blizzard in official material. We will tell you to act on this. PROVISIONAL — Datamined, reported, or our own read. Good enough to plan around, not good enough to bet on. It may change. AWAITING VERIFICATION — Nobody has said yet. We are not going to make something up to fill the gap.

A second Horde caster race

Troll and undead have been the only Horde mage races for the entire history of Classic. Orc mage doesn’t change mage itself — it changes the reasons someone picks orc, historically a race chosen for melee classes thanks to Hardiness and the axe bonus, neither of which does much for a mage.

Blood Fury is the open question

Blood Fury has granted a burst of spell power for casters throughout Classic’s history — one reason orc warlock has always been a strong pick despite orc’s melee-leaning reputation. Whether that still holds in Forever isn’t confirmed: the demo build changes every race’s racials, and the only orc change named so far is Axe Specialisation, a melee weapon bonus with no relevance to a mage. Until Blood Fury itself is confirmed either way, treat any "orc mage is secretly strong" claim as unverified.

What we need from beta

Whether Blood Fury changes, and whether orc mage ends up mechanically distinct from troll or undead mage, or is mainly a roleplay choice.
